John Williams Returning to Score Star Wars Episode VIII

One of Hollywood’s most honored composers, John Williams (Star Wars), appeared at the Tanglewood Music Centre with the Boston Pops on Saturday to lead them through some memorable pieces of music he has written for the Star Wars films.

But that is not all. The 84 year old composer told the crowd that in a few weeks he would begin working on the sequel to Star Wars: A Force Awakens as he has recently seen an early cut.  The reason he is coming back, Williams was so enchanted by Daisy Ridley’s portrayal of Rey that he did not want to see another composer scoring her scenes.

This is excellent news as it would be hard to imagine another composer scoring the main line of Star Wars films (Star Wars: Rogue One will have a different composer, Alexandre Desplat).  Rey was surely the highlight of “A Force Awakens” and it’s good to see the composer feels enough of the same that he would want to go back and continue the job.  Let’s hope he can be back to finish the series with Episode IX.

Star Wars Episode VIII will release in December 2017
