Avengers Reassemble for New Marvel and Square Enix Multi Year Multi Game Team Up

Marvel Entertainment and SQUARE ENIX® early yesterday announced a new multi-year, multi-game licensing agreement to develop and publish games based on Marvel Super Heroes, and I am excited to say that this is beginning with The Avengers.  The first blockbuster game is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics®, developers of the award winning Tomb Raider® series, in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, the home of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Deus Ex game series.  The official press release is found here and the description of the game is as follows:

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.

The great part about this description is the “gamers can play in for years to come”.  It will be interesting to know in what way.  The Marvel Universe is always changing with new heroes and villains and this can play a part in the game universe as well.  Perhaps with downloadable content such as maps, heroes, villains, costumes, etc.  We will have to wait and see.

For now, here is a look at the teaser that Marvel released:

“The world will always need heroes, we just need to reassemble.”

Not much is given for the story here, only that the heroes are lost, defeated, or disassembled and they need to band together once again.  It’s all we have for now and will have to wait until 2018 for more information.
