Marvel Studios has finally released the trailer to Thor: Ragnarok and it looks amazing! I really was not sure how Taika Waititi’s (director of Hunt for the Wilderpeople) would translate to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but from what I see here, He looks to be a good fit. The Marvel films are generally colorful and light-hearted in tone and Taika delivers this in spades. Cate Blanchett looks like she is straight out of the comic as Hela the Goddess of Death, and the comedic end of the trailer gives me great comfort that Taika knows what he’s doing here.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Thor film, however, Thor: The Dark World was a bit disappointing. I really can’t wait for this one as, thanks to Taika’s vision, it looks like the third time could be the charm for Thor.
Thor Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and Jeff Goldblum.
The film is scheduled to be released in North America on November 3, 2017.
The official synopsis and trailer are below.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
